New Comic Review - Extermination #1

Name - Extermination #1
Published by - Marvel Comics
Written by - Ed Brisson
Art by - Pepe Larraz

Coloring by - Marte Gracia
Letters by - VC's Joe Sabino
Release Date: August 15, 2018

Although I have been a fan of the X-men for a long time, I would be honest in admitting the X-men hadn't had any extraordinary stories for quite a while now. As an old fan I have been checking out the series whenever something vaguely promising seems to be on with them, but have been disappointed for some years now. Well, maybe some beloved mutants are dying left and right, but I for one, am finally excited again.

March 2018 New Comics To Watch For

March is a way more varied month in terms of new comics than February. There are releases from a variety of different publishers that I find promising this time, compared to the last  month.

You see, Caroline is going to live forever, and there is no escape to be had. The very act of living reminds her that, to the rest of existence, she is an anomaly.
All of that could change, however, when her old foe, Madame Atom, comes to her with an intriguing offer. Madame Atom can give Caroline the power to end her life; she just has to destroy the rest of the world.

It's been almost three years since the 'Fantastic Four' is missing in Marvel Comics. While I have never been actually a fan of the FF, for the aforementioned time I could definitely feel a 'Four' shaped gap in everything Marvel. So, like every other Marvel fan out there, I cannot help being very excited about the new ongoing featuring the return of the beloved foursome.

Promising Sci-fi & Fantasy - June 2018

June was a rather bleak month for new and interesting novels. I could only find these five that I want to read.

"Revenant Gun (The Machineries of Empire #3)"
Author - Yoon Ha Lee
Publisher - Solaris

Machineries Of Empire, the most exciting science fiction trilogy of the decade, reaches its astonishing conclusion!
When Shuos Jedao wakes up for the first time, several things go wrong. His few memories tell him that he's a seventeen-year-old cadet--but his body belongs to a man decades older.  Hexarch Nirai Kujen orders Jedao to reconquer the fractured hexarchate on his behalf even though Jedao has no memory of ever being a soldier, let alone a general.  Surely a knack for video games doesn't qualify you to take charge of an army?
Soon Jedao learns the situation is even worse.  The Kel soldiers under his command may be compelled to obey him, but they hate him thanks to a massacre he can't remember committing.  Kujen's friendliness can't hide the fact that he's a tyrant.  And what's worse, Jedao and Kujen are being hunted by an enemy who knows more about Jedao and his crimes than he does himself...

[ I have heard lots of good things about this series. I have only read one short story and liked it. Now that the trilogy is done, I know I need to read these books. ]

Publisher - Angry Robot

A city threatened by unimaginable horrors must trust their most hated outcast, or lose everything, in this crushing epic fantasy debut.

[ Hmm, a very interesting new fantasy novel from 'Angry Robot', should be worth a read I think. I interviewed the author here - link ]

"Shelter (The Aftermath #1)"
Author - Dave Hutchinson

For Adam Hardy and his small Berkshire community, hardship is all they’ve ever known. For almost a century after the coming of The Sisters, the survivors of rainswept England have huddled in their tiny communities, scavenging the ruins of the old world. But for how long? A new tyrant, Frank Pendennis, has risen in the east, while rumours of something even worse are coming from the north.
The struggle to inherit the world is just beginning…

[ I quite loved, the only work I read by this author ('Acadie'). So I am very excited by this new work by him. ]

"Trail of Lightning (The Sixth World #1)"

While most of the world has drowned beneath the sudden rising waters of a climate apocalypse, Dinétah (formerly the Navajo reservation) has been reborn. The gods and heroes of legend walk the land, but so do monsters.
Maggie Hoskie is a Dinétah monster hunter, a supernaturally gifted killer. When a small town needs help finding a missing girl, Maggie is their last—and best—hope. But what Maggie uncovers about the monster is much larger and more terrifying than anything she could imagine.
Maggie reluctantly enlists the aid of Kai Arviso, an unconventional medicine man, and together they travel to the rez to unravel clues from ancient legends, trade favors with tricksters, and battle dark witchcraft in a patchwork world of deteriorating technology.
As Maggie discovers the truth behind the disappearances, she will have to confront her past—if she wants to survive.
Welcome to the Sixth World.

[ An interesting setting to say the least. I am hardly interested in urban fantasy these days, but this one really intrigues me. ]
