It's been almost three years since the 'Fantastic Four' is missing in Marvel Comics. While I have never been actually a fan of the FF, for the aforementioned time I could definitely feel a 'Four' shaped gap in everything Marvel. So, like every other Marvel fan out there, I cannot help being very excited about the new ongoing featuring the return of the beloved foursome.

On the surface, this new beginning for FF might feel like a superhero comic, but like all past incarnations of this legendary team this is a family book in its core. So, as expected, the first issue deals with how Ben and Johnny are dealing with the apparent loss of the other members of their family, especially in the aftermath of their fruitless search in the pages of 'Marvel Two-in-One'. Dan Slott aims at making the readers feel the pain and nostalgia while giving them hope for a promising future.

The sense of something glorious in the future is the driving force of the story. While the approach was very slow, the intention is loud and clear that the author is aiming for an emotional journey tugging at the heartstrings of all the fans and hoping to gain some more along the way.

The side story featuring 'Doom' feels very appropriate and seems to be even stronger in its execution and importance regarding the fate of the arch nemesis of the team. I, myself, would love to read more about where Victor Von Doom goes from here.

The art by 'Sara Pichelli' and 'Simone Bianchie' is crisp, clear and pleasantly gorgeous. While I have a mild complain regarding a few character arts, the overall feeling of grand dimensions and epic adventures to come is almost palpable.

So, while this story might have been a long time coming, the pace on display here was a bit too slow for me. I am gonna definitely pick up the next issues, but I would strongly hope for a faster pace if not anything else.

This gets 3.5 out of 5 stars from me.
